During ArtsSmarts month in the gallery school tours participated in an art exercise called "Art in the Moment".  We collected about 35 file boxes with lids, each containing an odd assortment of items such as pipe cleaners, pasta, buttons, feathers, paper clips, dominos, crayons and sand.

Each box was a selection of some of the items. A child was given a covered box and was to "create" a 3-dimensional collage in the lid of the box.

This "artful" display took about 5-10 minutes with the restriction of using only the items in the box. Photographs of each creative momentary masterpiece and the creator were taken and added to the exhibit in the gallery. Then the kids put all the items back in the boxes for the next class to try.

It was amazing how unique the "masterpieces" were, created by each child using the same materials in the box.
