Dr. Lorna Earl, Principal Researcher, Aporia Consulting
Dr. Lorna Earl is a director of Aporia Consulting Ltd. and a retired Associate Professor from the department of Theory and Policy Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. She was the first Director of Assessment for the Ontario Education Quality and Accountability Office, and she has been a researcher and research director in school districts for over 20 years. Dr. Earl holds a doctorate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, as well as degrees in education and psychology.

Throughout her career, Dr. Earl has concentrated her efforts on policy and program evaluations as a vehicle to enhance learning for pupils and for organizations. She has done extensive work in the areas of literacy and the middle years but has concentrated her efforts on issues related to evaluation of large-scale reform and assessment (large-scale and classroom) in many venues around the world. She has worked extensively in schools and school boards, and has been involved in consultation, research and staff development with teachers' organizations, ministries of education, school districts and charitable foundations.


Susan Elgie, Research Associate, Aporia Consulting
Susan Elgie has a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Measurement and Evaluation, both from the University of Toronto. She has extensive experience as a statistical and research methods consultant, a field in which she worked at OISE, University of Toronto. Now a consultant, Susan has participated in many research projects and evaluation studies. Her current research interests include large-scale testing, English Language Learners and multilevel modeling.


Jodene Dunleavy, Research Writer
Jodene Dunleavy has worked at the Ministry and board levels as a policy advisor and as a freelance education writer for CEA and within the Ontario and Nova Scotia education sectors. Her areas of focus include educational theory and research in board effectiveness and school improvement, and evidence-based policy development. She is currently the National Coordinator of the Canadian Education Association's What did you do in school today? initiative and a freelance education writer. Jodene has a B.Ed and M.A.
